A former Tonbridge Angels footballer has died after collapsing on the pitch.

Charlie Slocombe was a former defender for the club and made a total of 32 appearances for the first team.

The 25-year-old, who lived in Sevenoaks, had been taking part in a six-a-side game on Monday evening when he collapsed.

He was transferred to King's college Hospital in London and put on life support, but sadly passed away yesterday.

His former club which is based at the Longmead Stadium, Darenth Avenue, Tonbridge, broke the news on it's website and also tweeted it to club fans.

Charlie has also played for Crowborough and Hythe teams during his sporting career.

A statement on the club's website said: "Very sad news has now been received concerning the sudden passing of former Angels defender Charlie Slocombe aged just 26.

"Taken from us far too young, Charlie was a popular player at the club who was involved in both the Reserve and 1st team sides.

"He made of a total of 32 appearances for the 1st team and always showed a willingness to step up and help his team mates when required.

"It is known that he had a special affection for Longmead and all connected with the Angels

"Or thoughts are with Charlie’s family and friends as they try to come to terms with this devastating news."

Charlie has also played for Crowborough and Hythe teams during his career.

His funeral arrangements have not yet been finalised.
