A tenant moving into their property almost started a fire that could have killed their dog last night.
Fire fighters were called to a smoke-filled flat, in Bridge Close, Tonbridge, at 6.35pm after concerned neighbours heard an alarm.
The drama was caused by an off cut of kitchen worktop that had been placed on an electric cooker temporarily.
Unfortunately a hob ring had been accidently switched on and this slowly burned into the worktop.
Two fire engines attended and crews had to force entry to the first floor flat.
Once inside they rescued a dog from the smoke.
It took about an hour and a half to declare the building safe.
