11 members of a Tonbridge walking group have carried out a little pick along a three mile stretch of the River Medway.

The members from Tonbridge U3A's (University of the Third Age) Country Walking Group took part in the litter pick as part of a six mile circular walk from Hartlake Bridge in Golden Green to East Peckham.

The group collected 12 sacks of assorted rubbish which were collected and disposed of by Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council on Monday, September 15.

Members of the U3A group make the most of the ‘natural’ bench and take a breather during their three mile litter-pick.

U3A leader, Alan Dane, who is a Tonbridge street monitor said: "At the end of the day you certainly feel that you have achieved something and the glorious weather last week encouraged us to linger – with plenty of places to sit and admire the view.

"We also did a Medway Litter Pick last year, collecting rubbish along a stretch in Tonbridge from the Cannon Lane Bridge to East Lock.”

Cllr Brian Luker, Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council's cabinet member for environmental services said: "It's great to see yet another group taking pride in their own part of the borough and it really does make a difference.

"It also goes to show that little picking needn't be a chore."
