Two Tonbridge businesses have become the first recipients of a new award from the borough council.
The Humphrey Bean and Slug and Lettuce received the Safer Socialising Award from Cllr Sasha Luck, the mayor of Tonbridge and Malling, at Tonbridge Castle on Tuesday.
Its aim is to encourage licensed premises to make a positive contribution towards community safety.
To qualify for an award a venue must show that high standards of management and health and safety practices are in place, as well as measures to prevent binge drinking and making drinking water freely available.
They must also promote the sale of non-alcoholic drinks and help reduce crime and disorder.
James Harris, general manager for The Humphrey Bean, said: “We are delighted to receive this award. Creating a safe and welcoming environment for our customers in at the heart of everything we do.”
Gary McAllister, general manager for The Slug and Lettuce, added: “Nothing is more important to us than making sure customers feel safe and relaxed when they are enjoying an evening out.”
Inspections will carried out every two years and any licenced premises that is a member of Tonbridge and Malling Safer Towns Partnership can apply.
