Tonbridge boss Steve McKimm has admitted every game is a cup final for his squad after they slipped to within six points of the relegation zone.

Angels have picked up just one win in seven matches and travel to fellow strugglers Canvey Island on Saturday. McKimm’s side are one place and two points better off than Canvey having played a game more.

“We’ve got 16 games left and every one is a cup final,” McKimm said.

“That’s a situation we’ve put ourselves in and I don’t exclude myself from that.

“We’re all in it together, we’ve got 16 big games coming up. I’ve got faith in the squad, in my staff and in my ability to get us out of the trouble we’re in.”

McKimm will be keen his side register league points after last Saturday’s 3-0 home defeat to Leatherhead as Tonbridge, relegated from Conference South last season, battle to avoid dropping two divisions in as many seasons.

McKimm admitted: “We were not good on Saturday. We were punished for making silly mistakes and we didn’t take the half-chances we had. We didn’t deserve anything.

“We didn’t look confident in terms of hitting the back of the net. They scored two on the break, they punished us and were more clinical than we were."
