Tonbridge Juddians had to make do with a late consolation try in a 23-10 National League 2 East defeat at Henley Hawks.

Back in action after a week off, TJs and their hosts struggled to find any urgency, accuracy or quality - but Hawks ultimately had too much for their visitors, and took the lead with a 10th-minute penalty.

Judds were unable to put too many phases together and all they had to show for their first-half puffing was a Tom White penalty after 30 minutes. Toby Freeman's yellow card just before the break added to their woes.

The second half couldn’t have started worse as Juddians failed to gather from the kick-off and Henley pounced on the loose ball to go over for their first try.

Another penalty extend the hosts' lead before two tries in five minutes wrapped the game up after an hour.

TJs produced a late flurry as they found their way to the Henley right corner. Ironically the home side were the architects of their own defensive failings from a lineout and Joe Duffy dotted down with White adding the extras.

Tonbridge sit eighth in the standings ahead of a home game against North Walsham on Saturday.
