The Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells districts had plenty of wins to celebrate at the Kent Schools Cross-Country Championships on Saturday.

Tonbridge runners triumphed in three of the eight age groups in this year's event at Central Park, Dartford, with Annabelle Souter claiming victory in the intermediate girls' race in 14min52sec, Carys Firth winning the senior girls' category in 15.07 and Edward Coutts leading the senior boys home in 22.56.

The district took six-to-score honours in the intermediate girls and boys' races and there was four-to-score success in the senior boys' event.

Ella Webb's fifth spot (15.41), with Lilly Crossley sixth (15.50) helped Maidstone take the senior girls' four-to-score win.

Tunbridge Wells pupils set the pace for a Year 7 double. Purdey Hutchings broke the 10-minute barrier to win the girls' competition in 9.59 and Oliver Goodman's 10.23 was enough for a 25-second success in the boys' class.

Four top-10 places, with Luke Draper in second, gave Tunbridge Wells a team win in the junior boys' race.

Noah Patterson, running for South East Kent, won the intermediate boys' race in 20.02, while, like Tunbridge Wells, the Bromley district doubled up in same category with junior girls' success for Luciana Smith (10.54) and a boys' win for Joseph Scanes (13.39).

Bromley matched Tonbridge in the team battles with three wins. They took first places in the Year 7 girls and boys' six-to-score categories and top spot in the junior girls' class.

In all, 14 districts were represented. Ashford & Weald's best result was a third place in the junior girls' race for Ava Chappell (10.55), who was pipped to second by Aoife McDonagh (10.54) for Bexley's best finish.

Canterbury & St Augustines' Adam Whitlock was best of the rest in the intermediate boys' event (20.02) while Dartford & Gravesham, on home territory, enjoyed a fourth-place finish in the Year 7 girls' race with Matilda Holliday (10.10).

The intermediate girls' race was Medway's best event, Lauren Mitchell (15.10) finishing second, and Ben Catchpole (14.07) sealed a top-10 finish for Sevenoaks with sixth in the junior boys' event.

Shepway's best result came with Gabriella Durrant's 19th place (11.25) in the Year 7 girls' category, Swale's Hayden Gear was fifth in the senior boys' category in 23.31 and Thanet's Jake Stevens (23.07) was second in the senior boys' race.
