TONBRIDGE Angels have signed former Charlton goalkeeper Mike Salmon from Ipswich Town.

Salmon, who celebrated his 38th birthday earlier this month, put pen to paper on Wednesday and is due to make his debut in Friday's game against a Nigerian side at Longmead Stadium (7.45pm).

He is a vastly-experienced keeper who spent almost 10 years at Charlton before leaving for Ipswich Town on a free transfer in 1999. He began his career at Blackburn Rovers and has also played for Stockport County, Bolton Wanderers, Chester City and Wrexham.

During his spell at the Welsh club Salmon was an ever-present between 1986 and 1988. It is understood Salmon has been coaching at Gillingham and for the Kent County Football Association where Walker is director of coaching.

Salmon did not appear in the first team at Portman Road but was on the bench as cover for Andy Marshall during the closing stages of the 2001/02 season.

Veteran Tonbridge keeper Joe Radford who played regularly for the Angels last season is poised to join Tommy Sampson at Dr Martens Eastern Division rivals Dartford.
