Tonbridge boss Steve McKimm will face his friend, Maidstone manager Jay Saunders, when the sides clash in the Ryman League Premier Division derby at Longmead on Bank Holiday Monday.

While he is looking forward to that showdown, McKimm is not about to lose focus on what needs to be done before then – trying to get a result at Wingate & Finchley on Saturday.

McKimm’s side have yet to win on the road and he knows it won’t be easy at Wingate especially if his side play like they did in the first half at Met Police last Saturday.

He said: “It was the worst performance I have seen in my time here. It was awful – there was no passion, there was nothing and that’s not acceptable and never will be. They needed a good kick up the backside and believe me they got it."

As for the clash on Monday, McKimm won’t be treating Maidstone any differently.

He said: “There will be players on both sides out to prove a point now they are in different camps. But, saying that, it’s just the same as any other game – there are three points at stake.”

As for his friendship with Saunders, McKimm said that would be put on hold for 90 minutes.

He said: “We’ll have a chat before the game and a beer after but there is a game to be won in between.”
