Tonbridge boss Steve McKimm hopes to have a new striker to lead his attack in the Ryman League Premier Division clash against leaders Margate at Longmead on Saturday.

His side have scored just once in five games and drew another blank in the goalless draw at lowly AFC Hornchurch last weekend.

Now McKimm has been working to find someone to end that goalscoring drought and he is confident he has got his man.

McKimm said: “All I can say is that the ink is almost dry. If I said anything else, it could come back to bite me on the bottom if the deal collapsed at the last minute. Saying that, I am feeling confident he’ll be playing on Saturday.”

McKimm was able to go on the hunt for a new striker after releasing Chris Piper and Alex Teniola last week. Piper has since joined Maidstone.

He said: “Doing that freed up some money for me. It’s given the opportunity to freshen the squad up and bring in some fresh blood – it needed to be done.”

As for the clash with Margate, McKimm knows his side will be up against it but he’s not feeling intimidated.

He said: “They may be top but they are not invincible. They lost on Saturday (2-1 against Peacehaven & Telscombe) and drew the two games before that. They’ve got to be up for it if they want to get a result – my lads will be.”

After the clash with Margate, McKimm takes his side to Maidstone on New Year’s Day.
