Tonbridge Angels are in danger of being relegated for a second consecutive season after the heaviest defeat of their Ryman League Premier Division campaign.

A 5-2 reverse at Canvey Island last Saturday leaves Angels, who were relegated from Conference South last term, in 19th spot - just six points and two places above the drop zone.

Boss Steve McKimm said: “It was mistake-ridden, lacklustre and we paid for it against a side which started the game below us. It wasn’t a good day and that’s putting it really mildly.”

Tonbridge are in action at Hampton & Richmond on Saturday, a side two places but only three points above them. Angels beat Hampton 2-0 at Longmead in October and McKimm admitted he’d be happy with that scoreline again, but he knows it won’t be easy.

He said: “They are a big strong unit. We will need to match them with effort and plenty of hard work. We have got 15 games left to turn our season around and we need to start doing it now before it gets too late.”

Tonbridge could include a couple of new faces, with McKimm close to bringing in a defender and wide player.

“It’s looking good but it has been really hard to get players to come here,” he added.

“I’ve spoken to plenty of players, a lot of who are in squads and not playing games, but some don’t want to come over."
