ATHLETE Oliver Freeman, a student at Tonbridge School, has finished an outstanding season by winning another national title. Freeman from Smarden, near Ashford, won the National Youth Aquathon Championships at Loughborough University.
This involved a 200m swim, a 1,500m run, another 200m swim and a final 1,500 metre run.
The race took Freeman 16.09min and he finished seven seconds ahead of the highly competitive field. The title adds to the National Youth Triathlon Champion title that he won in July at Holmes Chapel, Cheshire. This race involved a 400 metre lake swim, a 10k bike along country roads, followed by a 3k run.
The youngster says he would like to thank Huw Evans, a Welsh International cross-country and track runner and teacher at Tonbridge School, for his support.
The high-point of Freeman's season was a month ago when he represented Great Britain for the first time, competing in the European Youth Relay Championships in Poland. His team was in second place when he took over to do the last swim-bike-run leg. Clocking the fastest bike spilt of the day he led the team to the gold medal.
