Tonbridge Angels are closing in on a new manager.

Chairman Steve Churcher and his board interviewed eight applicants in the seach for Tommy Warrilow's successor, with Angels looking to rebuild after relegation to the Ryman League, Premier Division.

Mr Churcher said: “There were so many strong candidates. It was a difficult decision and I'm thankful I didn't have to make it on my own.

“We were looking for someone who knows this level of football and is able to work with the lads we have coming through the ranks, which is important as we are becoming a community-owned club at the start of next season.

“You know straight away the people who can work to the budget and those who can't. Everyone we interviewed could and that made the decision more difficult. There are some fine managers out there.”

Mr Churcher also revealed they only considered bosses who applied for the post.

He added: “If someone wants the job, they will apply. We don't like it when people poach our players, so we weren't going to approach anybody.”
