Tonbridge Juddians made it four wins in a row with a 21-20 victory over high-flying Blackheath in National League 2 East.
Blackheath edged the try count three to two, but Judds, through Tom White’s boot, won the kicking duel.
TJs started well and their first real foray into Blackheath territory after six minutes ended with a White penalty. Both defences then dominated and it wasn't until the 20th minute that the scoreboard flickered into life again with a second White three-pointer.
The first try came from Blackheath as they created an opening for their left-wing to slice through in the centre for a converted score and a 7-6 lead.
From the restart they tried to trundle out of defence and forced a pass on the left which Howard Packman intercepted to scamper home. White added a third penalty just before the break but Blackheath still had time to respond with one of their own.
Blackheath scored the second half's first try to lead 15-14, but the home side responded through a catch-and-drive to go 30 metres with Perry Parker dragging his team-mates forward before the ball was spun right where Bryan Hotston chose a direct line to the corner.
White added the extras and after 60 minutes TJs were six points clear.
With the clock ticking Blackheath mounted a series of attacks but the Juddians defence stood firm before forcing the Londoners to go wide left where they found a gap in the corner for their third try. The conversion was missed, though, leaving Tonbridge to dig deep for the remainder of the game but they held on and sit fifth in the table.
Tonbridge return to action on November 26 with a trip to Worthing.
