Almost £10,000 has been raised to support the family of a "kind, caring and devoted" security guard, who was killed in a terrorist attack by the Taliban.

Dad-of-one Luke Griffin was one of five G4S employees who lost their lives while defending a compound in Kabul, Afghanistan last Wednesday.

Mr Griffin had moved away from Kent to Rainhill in Merseyside with his wife and son but his parents still live in Tunbridge Wells, where the 33-year-old grew up.

His father, Anthony Tooke, said in a Facebook post his son "died saving others way beyond the call of duty".

He added: "We know he saved lives that fateful day and now I ask any and everyone to just help a little to ease the difficult time that Helen and Tommy now face.

"Of course as his dad I will do whatever I can in my power to help but also I have the rest of the family who are in so much pain as well."

Friends and family have paid tribute to Mr Griffin on a GoFundMe page, which has already raised thousands of pounds to support his loved ones.

The page reads: "Those that knew Luke know how well liked and supportive he was. He didn’t shy away and tackled everything life threw at him.

"We know he saved lives that fateful day and now I ask any and everyone to just help a little to ease the difficult time that Helen and Tommy now face..." - Anthony Tooke, Luke Griffin's father

"He was kind, caring and devoted to his wife, Helen, and their son, Tommy.

"Luke was a member of the armed forces (Royal Artillery) who then continued supporting security services in areas of conflict.

"He gave his life for the protection of others. Hopefully this will help his family at a time when they now need their country's support.

"All proceeds here will help pay towards supporting Helen and Tommy during a very difficult time."
