A handbag was snatched while its owner was ice skating in Tunbridge Wells, with the suspected culprits arrested within hours.
At around 5.45pm yesterday, two women attended the ice rink at Calverley Grounds and placed their coats and bags on a bench while they went skating.
On their return they found a handbag and some headphones were missing and immediately called Kent Police.
They also reported one of their bank cards had subsequently been used at a town centre supermarket and fast food restaurant.
Officers attended the scene and, on examining CCTV footage, saw a man and a woman sit on the bench next to the victims’ property. It is alleged the pair then stole the items before leaving the area.
Enquiries were made into the identity of the suspects and, around three hours later, a 48-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman were arrested at a Tunbridge Wells address.
Officers also seized a quantity of suspected drugs and the pair were taken into custody.
