A mum and ex-commercial property sales manager has ditched the London rat race in favour of boosting water confidence for babies in west Kent.
Kate Brown spent the last nine years working for a company in Mayfair. Keen to spend more time with her young daughter the 39-year-old soon found that although she loved her career, it no longer offered the flexibility she needed as a new mother.
She started to look for a new, more accommodating career challenge.
Mrs Brown has always been active and has a passion for swimming and running so her personality was an immediate fit with baby swim programme, Turtle Tots.
Having purchased a licence from Turtle Tots for the west Kent region, she is now running classes in Tunbridge Wells and Brands Hatch.
She explains: “I’d had some prior experience of baby swim classes when I took my daughter to a larger baby swim chain, but it lacked the personal touch that many new mums are looking for.
"I felt like we were part of a massive swimming empire as opposed to being part of a smaller, more comfortable group where we could get to know people and develop at our own pace.
"The Turtle Tots approach is so very different, the experience is far more personal and not at all intimidating, which is massively important, because plunging your baby into the water for the first time can be a daunting prospect for any mum.”
The baby swim programme began on July 8 at The Thistle Hotel Brands Hatch and The Royal Retreat Spa in Tunbridge Wells.
Classes offer affordable, safe, structured swim sessions for babies and toddlers.
Mrs Brown added: "My classes are all about safety, building confidence in the water at your own pace, learning new skills, bonding with your baby and other mums socially and most important of all, having fun.”
A portion of revenue will be donated to Demelza Hospice Care for Chidlren.
Caroline Sparks, commercial director of Turtle Tots Ltd said: “Kate’s warm and friendly personality is a great fit for the Turtle Tots brand, being a mum herself she can identify with how other mums feel the first time they let go of their baby in the water and she will be on hand to guide and support them and their baby develops its newfound skills. We look forward to seeing her classes flourish in the area”.
