A world-renowned chocolatier’s factory based in Kent is set to close after 40 years of production.

Confectionary giants Charbonnel et Walker, who provide luxury champagne truffles and chocolate for shops such as Harrods, has announced the closure of its manufacturing plant in Tunbridge Wells.

A spokesman for the company confirmed that the production of sweets and chocolate products will be moved to a site in Poundbury, Dorchester, next month.

Charbonnel et Walker was founded in 1875 and is one of Britain’s first chocolatiers.

The sweet manufacturer is endorsed by the Royal Warrant as a chocolate manufacturer to Queen Elizabeth II.

The global brand uses the finest ingredients while traditional recipes maintained throughout the years help create the handmade chocolate treats.

Charbonnel et Walker are famed for their unique design of packaging with handmade boxes and satin ribbon. Sweets are also packaged in brightly coloured boxes with golden writing.

Following the announcement to close the Tunbridge Wells base in Quarry Road, a spokesman revealed the sweet manufacturer is liaising with staff on a consultation process.

They said: “We can confirm that the manufacture and production of Charbonnel et Walker products will be relocated to our Poundbury site.

“As a result, it is with regret we confirm that production at Tunbridge Wells is likely to cease on or around March 29.”
