But staff at Southeastern's social media team were given time to chew over their amoosing puns when reports from the field emerged there was not just one cow on the line, but several.

After an initial tweet on the situation there came apparent good news with "Cows on the moove, as are the trains near Frant

"They'll heffer run a little slower in the area until we've confirmed it's back in its field."

But then came an update to say the rail firm had 'herd' from Network Rail staff there was more than one animal in the area.

Southeastern says there will be minor delays nearby while it waits for the farmer to arrive.

Meanwhile, a line affected by a landslip is due to re-open tomorrow.
