Deliveroo reveals plans for Tunbridge Wells and Sevenoaks as its London couriers strike
16:29, 15 August 2016
A nationwide restaurant delivery company whose London workers are striking after being told they will soon get less than the National Living Wage (NLW) has revealed its plans for Kent.
Deliveroo, whose courier drivers pick up food from a number of well-known restaurants that don't offer takeaway services and deliver it to diners' homes, covers the Tunbridge Wells and Sevenoaks areas.
In London, the firm has proposed introducing new rules, for a trial period, which would see couriers earn just £3.75 per hour during quiet periods. The NLW for people aged over 25 is currently £7.20 per hour.
Deliveroo's 3,000 cyclists and moped riders have previously been paid £7 per hour plus £1 per delivery at certain times of the day.
Employees in the capital have been striking for three days over the plans, which have been criticised by the government's Department for Business, Energy and Industry Strategy.
But this afternoon, the company revealed its Kent employees are safe.
A spokesman said: "We have no plans to introduce the trial in Kent so workers who cover Tunbridge Wells and Sevenoaks are not affected. They are delivering food as usual."
