Man, believed to be in his 70s, treated for smoke inhalation following fire in lounge of a home in Hungershall Park, Tunbridge Wells

A man believed to be in his 70s was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation following an early morning lounge fire.

Firefighters attended a home in Hungershall Park, Tunbridge Wells, shortly after 2am today.

When they arrived they found that an open fire had got out of control and spread to the mantelpiece.

It was quickly extinguished but crews remained at the scene for just over an hour to scan the home with a thermal imaging camera.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service sent two engines from Tunbridge Wells station to the scene.

One ambulance was sent to the scene and they took the patient to Tunbridge Wells Hospital for further treatment.
