Plans for Father Christmas World 2015 have been scrapped - despite organisers claiming a planning application would be submitted imminently.

Markerstudy Leisure has decided not to proceed with its application for the Christmas event and will instead, replace it with a "traditional Christmas" at Salomons Estate.

Company bosses say the decision has been taken as "part of the larger long-term plan to focus on the estate’s restoration programme" and a "commitment to respect the heritage of the Victorian mansion and grounds".

Nick Moore, group commercial director, commented: “We have given much thought to this decision, especially after the success of Father Christmas World 2014.

"But, in the end, what matters most to us is Salomons Estate itself. Since acquiring the estate we have started restoring the fabric and fittings to echo the original style of the Victorian mansion as both a family home and backdrop for business and technology.

"Plus we have extensively repaired the historic estate water tower and continue to rejuvenate the stunning gardens, lakes and estate grounds.

“Looking back at the history of the Salomons family, the ethos of the estate has always been about education and celebration. We will continue to build on this heritage with a long-term plan to make Salomons Estate accessible to visitors of all ages.”

Mr Moore said a recent consultation meeting with Tunbridge Wells Borough Council, local businesses and neighbours allowed staff to listen to comments - the vast majority of which were supportive.

However, he believes it became clear that Father Christmas World does not "compliment the longer-term vision of the estate."
