Construction work on Fiveways piazza will begin next week Tunbridge Wells Borough Council has announced
11:30, 10 September 2014
Work on the new piazza at Fiveways in Tunbridge Wells is due to start next week and be completed by the end of November.
As well as new paving on the central piazza and granite cobblestones on the roadway the area will receive new street furniture and bins designed to prevent rainwater getting into the bin and staining the paving.
The furniture is being supplied by a company local to Kent and the design will be specifically customised for Tunbridge Wells.
The construction work, beginning on Monday, comes after much consultation and design work behind the scenes, Tunbridge Wells Borough Council said.
A spokesperson for the council said: "The fresh look is intended to be simple and to complement the new paving. Although more contemporary in look it is intended that it will still respect the historic character of the town."
Councillor Paul Barrington-King, Cabinet member with responsibility for sustainability said: "The choice of the design and use of materials has been well researched and is purposely robust. We have been keen to reduce the maintenance required and to eliminate redecoration costs, but still keep it looking good.’"
