Hospital's high-tech gift from its friends
00:00, 17 April 2003
SPECIAL video equipment allowing surgeons to see inside the body during operations has been presented to the Kent and Sussex Hospital at Tunbridge Wells.
The £6,000 gift was made following fund-raising efforts by the hospital's League of Friends and will be used primarily for ear, nose and throat surgery.
As well as assisting surgical teams during operations, it also enables a film record to be made which can later be used in the training of student doctors.
ENT consultant Robert Sergeant said: "We will now be able to operate using a magnified image on screen.
"This is the way technology is moving and it is thanks to the hard work and generosity of the League of Friends that we are able to take advantage of it."
