Some Kent residents have been left fuming after a BBC gaffe mixed up two of the county's towns.

Funny man Alan Carr presented Interior Design Masters last night where contestants were tasked with refitting three shops in The Pantiles, in Tunbridge Wells, also known as Royal Tunbridge Wells.

However, when the show panned to the town it plastered three words across the screen which left people enraged - Royal Tonbridge Wells.

The BBC team had mixed Royal Tunbridge Wells up with nearby Tonbridge, which is a completely different place, and people on social media weren't happy.

Alan Wheeler said: "Never heard of the town on Interior Design Masters Royal Tonbridge Wells. Not sure what the people of Royal Tunbridge Wells and it's (sic) neighbour Tonbridge think."

While Ian Punchard added: "So... the teams have visited Royal Tonbridge Wells, except there is no such place.

"Royal Tunbridge Wells, yes... silly mistake or am I missing something?"

A third person on Twitter fumed: "There is Tonbridge and there is Royal TUNBRIDGE Wells. Royal TONBRIDGE Wells does not exist. And the two are NEVER confused if you live in the area."

In week four of the competition, aired last night, contestants are paired up into three teams and tasked with refitting three shops in The Pantiles: pet shop Collared, camera and binocular shop Pantiles Cameras, and cook and kitchen supplies shop Trevor Mottram.

The designers first met the shop owners and pitched their ideas and were then given two days to revamp the shops into destination shopping spaces.
