Tunbridge Wells man Dave Webb determined to beat lung cancer and raise funds for Cancer Research UK
09:00, 18 November 2015
A Tunbridge Wells man who is battling cancer has raised more than £1,000 for charity while undergoing treatment.
Dave Webb took himself to Tunbridge Wells Hospital in Pembury in August after coughing up blood.
Doctors spotted a shadow on the 58-year-old's right lung and following a biopsy he was diagnosed with with stage 2 lung cancer.
Mr Webb, of Chafford Lane, Fordcombe, said: "When I had the coughing fit I spat loads of blood into the sink. It really worried me so I went to the hospital where they gave me an x-ray and spotted the shadow.
"How long the surgery will take depends on how much they find. I have had surgery on my spine before and a hip replacement so it doesn't worry me too much but they are going into my chest and the complications which can come from it are slightly worrying.
"I decided while it is all going on I needed something to distract myself so decided to set up a JustGiving page to raise money for Cancer Research UK."
"I am determined to beat this, I have got cancer, cancer hasn't got me" - Dave Webb
Mr Webb, who is a father-of-four, set himself an initial fundraising target of £1,500 which he as already surpassed.
The former construction worker organised multiple charity events around the borough, including a head shave, chest wax and full monty show.
Mr Webb added: "I am going to lose my hair through chemotherapy anyway so I thought why not shave it for charity.
"I am determined to beat this, I have got cancer, cancer hasn't got me."
Mr Webb will be undergoing surgery today at Guy's Hospital in London.
