A group trying to raise funds to create an adventure playground is celebrating getting a funding boost.

The Tunbridge Wells branch of Barclays Bank has given volunteers from Friends of Calverley Grounds £5,000 towards their total.

The group is trying to raise £225,000 in a year to create the Calverley Adventure Grounds.

Barclays supported the fundraising attempt by selling raffle tickets and supporting with the auction at a black tie event in October.

Money raised contributed a significant amount to the £28,500 collected at the event.

These funds mean that the total raised by the group has now tipped over the £100,000 mark.

Simon Hird, Barclays premier manager, said: "We are delighted with the amount raised for Calverley Adventure Grounds, and would like to thank everyone who supported us to make this happen."

The adventure grounds will transform the bowling green in Calverley Grounds off Mount Pleasant Avenue into a dedicated area for children to enjoy.

The designs have been drawn up by local landscape architect Jennette Emery-Wallis, who has also created plans for the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Playground and Tumbling Bay at the Olympic Park.

Kate Bourne, fundraising director for Calverley Adventure Grounds, said: "It will be wonderful to see Barclays' name recognised on the Calverley Community Wall alongside many other families and local businesses who are all playing their part in making Calverley Adventure Grounds a reality."

Construction work for the adventure grounds will start in the spring, and are estimated to be finished by summer 2017.
