Knights Wood housing development in Tunbridge Wells welcomes parents to opening evening of Skinners' Kent Primary School
08:00, 11 November 2014
A new primary school being created as part of a housing development in Tunbridge Wells is welcoming parents to open evenings .
Some 550 contemporary plots comprising houses and apartments are being built at Knights Wood next to the North Farm Industrial Estate over the next four years - as well as the Skinners' Kent Primary School.
The school, which will be run by the Skinners' School Foundation, will carry out a phased programme of growth to a capacity of 210 pupils across seven classes, with the potential to expand to two classes per year.
When it opens in September next year it is expected to have 30 pupils in Reception class and 15 in years 1 and 2.
Eager parents wanting to learn more can attend the two open evenings where they can meet the heads of The Skinners' School and the Skinners' Kent Academy, who are supporting the development.
Dandara, the property developer currently building the homes has contributed £3.95 million toward the cost of constructing the school, which will have academy status and educate boys and girls aged four to 11.
Susie Bennett, Sales Director at Knights Wood said: “The first phase of three-bedroom homes at Knights Wood has been really popular with young families. The quality of schools in Tunbridge Wells is often cited as a key reason for living in the town, so people have been really excited to hear that The Skinners’ Kent Primary School will be built at Knights Wood.
“For future residents with young children, having a brand new primary school on their doorstep is a big plus. The Skinners’ Kent Primary School will be located on the north side of a beautifully landscaped ‘village square’ and we hope that most parents will choose to walk their children to school.
"However, for those parents that need to drive, a new ‘drop-off’ car park will be available. With around 50 spaces, parents will be able to park here and walk their children to school, helping to generate an inclusive, family spirit.”
Parents wishing to apply for a place for their child at the school can apply to Kent County Council (KCC) from today until January 15.
Sian Carr, Principal of The Skinners’ Kent Academy, said: “The Skinners’ School and The Skinners’ Kent Academy are delighted to be working together to provide excellent primary provision in the new school. Our joint experience will ensure high standards of teaching and learning are combined with outstanding care and support.
"Our school will grow and flourish as the Knights Wood development grows and we look forward to being in the heart of a vibrant new community.”
The first phase of three bedroom homes is already on sale at Knights Wood, with more anticipated in the near future.
The open evenings will be held on Wednesday, November 19 at the Skinners' Kent Academy in Sandown Park from 4pm to 6pm and on Tuesday, December 9 at the Skinners' School in St John's Road form 4pm to 6pm.
