The new jab site will start operating at the barracks in Tunbridge Wells and will be managed by Pharmacy2U, who already operate a site in Maidstone.

All vaccinations will be administered by a qualified healthcare professional and patients will be required to return for the follow up jab.

At the end of May, 68,639 people in Tunbridge Wells had received a first dose of the vaccine and 43,987 of those had been given the second dose.

This means more than 71% of people in the borough have had at least one jab.

Mark Livingstone, CEO of Pharmacy2U, said: "We are incredibly proud to help play our part in protecting the most vulnerable people against Covid-19 and supporting the incredible effort the NHS has put into the vaccination programme.

"The continued launch of our sites marks a huge step in increasing the number of people that will have access to the vaccine and we feel privileged to be able to do so and help ease some of the huge pressures that the NHS are currently under.

"We're working closely with the national and regional NHS teams to deliver further vaccination sites for patients in areas that need them most."

Pharmacy2U operates Maidstone's only vaccination centre, located in the former Laura Ashley store at the County Town's Fremlin Walk shopping centre. Previously it had been housed at the Odeon cinema.

Fremlin Walk centre manager Lloyd Wright said: "We're delighted to be hosting Maidstone’s only Pharmacy2U Covid-19 vaccination centre at Fremlin Walk.

"It is a real privilege to be involved in the NHS vaccination programme, and we look forward to welcoming local residents who have confirmed appointments over the coming weeks."

Pharmacy2U has been operating Covid-19 vaccination sites across England since January and has so far vaccinated more than 350,000 people against the virus.
