09:45, 09 January 2015
A police appeal has been launched after masked robbers escaped raided a newsagent on Tuesday morning.
The thieves targeted the One Stop store in Liptraps Lane, Sherwood, just after 6am and also tied up a delivery driver in the back of his van.
It happened as staff were opening up the store and the offenders, who were not armed, abused the employees.
The men escaped by foot and are believed to have then made their getaway in a vehicle parked nearby.
Further offenders may have been waiting in the vehicle.
DC James Crouch from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate said: "Even though no violence was used the incident has caused a great amount of distress to the victims.
"We are continuing to make a number of enquiries to identify the offenders, who wore balaclavas and dark clothing to hide their identities.es and are now appealing for the public’s help.
"This was at an early time in the morning and we know that a number of people would have travelled directly past the store in their vehicles, whilst the robbery was in progress.
"I’m appealing to anyone who would have been travelling in and around the Liptraps Lane area at this time to call us. Even the smallest bit of information could help find those responsible."
Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward with any information they may have.
