09:32, 16 July 2003
POLICE are trying to trace a man who bit off part of another man's nose during what has been described as "an horrific assault" in Tunbridge Wells.
Detectives are particularly keen to talk to two women who were with the attacker and who tried to hold him back.
The victim was set upon as he was leaving a wine bar in the Mount Ephraim area of Tunbridge Wells at 11.30pm on Friday, July 4. .
Det Sgt Toby Hawkey, of West Kent CID, said the offender bit off part of the man's nose. He added: " The injury was severe enough to require future reconstructive surgery."
The offender is described as white, 20 - 30 years old, 5ft 10ins tall, with short light brown hair. He was wearing a light top and dark coloured trousers.
Det Sgt Hawkey is hoping that the women who were with him will come forward with information as they were clearly horrified by what was happening.
He said: "The women are not involved and therefore should not hesitate to come forward. The assault was horrific and it is important that we identify the offender to prevent further unprovoked attacks."
Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact West Kent Police on 01732 771055 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Callers to Crimestoppers do not have to leave their name.
