Tunbridge Wells police target speeding drivers in operation to promote road safety
12:05, 02 November 2016
Kent Police has carried out a district-wide operation to target speeding drivers and promote road safety.
Officers set up speed and traffic checks in six locations in the Tunbridge Wells district, in both rural and urban areas.
The operation was executed on October 10, 20, and 30, and was supported by community support officers and special constables.
Locations included Staplehurst, Hawkhurst, Five Oak Green, Sissinghurst, and locations around the A21 bypass.
Community speed watch volunteers also helped police, as well as the Kent and Medway Safety Camera Partnership.
The operation led to six penalty notices being issued for speeding offences and using a mobile whilst driving.
More than 100 vehicles were stopped over the course of the operation, with drivers being given advice on issues including their driving speeds on different road conditions and vehicle defects.
Sergeant Ross Shearing said: "Enforcement operations such as this play an important part in targeting vehicles which are not roadworthy, as well as motorists who may be driving dangerously or too fast.
"It is imperative all road users play their part in keeping our roads safe and the reaction from both residents and motorists has been very positive. We will continue to run these operations as a means to educate and also penalise drivers who are breaking the law.
"Speed limits are there for a reason and operations such as this one are carried out, not just to enforce the law, but to encourage people to think about their driving and the effect it can have on a community."
