Top radio host Iain Dale has told the Kent Politics Podcast how Suella Braverman as leader of the Conservatives would be a disaster for the party.
In a searingly honest interview, the Tory-supporting veteran broadcaster said Mrs Braverman in charge would be an “extinction-level event”.
And he vowed to do “whatever I can to stop” her from becoming leader after comments she made at the National Conservative conference in Washington DC.
She made remarks about the Pride flag and how as Home Secretary she failed to remove it from government buildings.
Mr Dale also offered for the first time a detailed explanation about why he dropped out of the race to become the Conservative candidate for Tunbridge Wells, which was subsequently won by the Lib Dem Mike Martin.
It had been reported he had made derogatory remarks about the town.
The broadcaster, who has lived in Tunbridge Wells since the 1990s, doubts he would have won in any case.
“I have had so many people say that I dodged a bullet,” he added.
The LBC presenter currently co-hosts a weekly political and current affairs podcast, entitled For The Many.
This was alongside former Labour Home Secretary Jacqui Smith until she was made a government minister by Sir Keir Starmer earlier this week.
The Kent Politics Podcast, which brings together reporters Simon Finlay, Robert Boddy, Dan Esson and Paul Francis each week, was launched in January.
