Staff at Pembury Primary School have issued a warning after a woman reportedly approached and tried to lead a child away from the site today.

School bosses issued the alert after the woman, described to be in her 30s or 40s, is reported to have approached parents about child care provision in the area before allegedly trying to take a child by the hand.

Kent Police has been made aware of the suspicious behaviour.

A spokesperson said: "Whilst no offences have been disclosed and there is currently no evidence to suggest the woman had any sinister intentions towards children at the school, Kent Police would always encourage members of the public to remain vigilant.

"We would also encourage parents to speak to their children to make sure they are aware of the potential risks associated with talking to strangers.

"If they are approached or have any concerns about people behaving suspiciously they should report it immediately to their parents or schoolteachers who can then report it to police."

Headteacher Mr Wibroe has issued a warning to parents of all 500 pupils.
