Headcorn Combined Ops Military Vehicle and Air Show gets off to flying start
11:00, 16 August 2015
An annual military vehicle and air show in Headcorn has entered its second day.
The Combined Ops show already welcomed hundreds of guests geared up and ready to take part in the event's various activities yesterday.
Today is no different. If not there for the explosions and aircraft displays, visitors will most definitely flock to the event's new attraction - Lucy Sue.
She’s starred alongside Hollywood greats Brad Pitt and Tom Hanks, and now film star Lucy Sue has taken a lead role at the show, held at Headcorn Aerodrome.
Named by owner Gavin Copeman, the tank – most recently seen in the wartime drama Fury, starring Brad Pitt – will be based at the grounds for the entire weekend.
She has been in action both days, taking part in arena battle re-enactments.
The setting for the wartime wonder show is a field which would have seen Second World War dogfights for real in the skies above.
Vintage and modern aircraft have been giving visitors a flavour of the military might involved in the real thing.
There’s also been plenty of shooting and deafening explosions as re-enactors fire thousands of blank rounds.
Military vehicles have been lined up for inspection and arena events and food stalls have been pleasing guests throughout the weekend.
It’s no costume drama, but looking the part has become part and parcel of Headcorn’s annual military marvel.
Although a uniform is not obligatory, many of the thousands of visitors who head for Headcorn Aerodrome do like to get kitted out.
