Crews from four fire engines used a hose reel jet and ventilation fan to deal with the fire, which took hold on both floors of the house.

Neighbour Danny Ball said fire crews arrived around 10am. He said: "The flames were really tall when it got going. The first fire officer was a man in a car who ran into the house.

"He came back out when the fire engines arrived."

The cause is not yet known.
