Police cordoned off the Great Threads area of Staplehurst, near Maidstone, and forensics were seen searching the street after the assault last night.
A man has been arrested in connection with the incident.
The force confirmed it was called at about 10.40pm yesterday to a disturbance in which a man had suffered head injuries.
“Officers attended along with the ambulance service and the man was taken to hospital, where he remains in a serious condition,” a spokesperson said.
“Shortly afterwards, officers arrested a 31-year-old man in connection with the incident.
“He remains in custody pending further enquiries.”
One witness says someone was allegedly hit with a bat.

“Now there are forensics all over the place.
“Last night there were four police cars, a police van, an ambulance car and an ambulance.
“Then another police car arrived which was a drone unit, they had drones up and it looked like they were searching for someone.”
