A228 closed towards Colts Hill after accident near Pembury

A major road was closed in both directions after a serious crash.

Investigators are appealing for information after a collision on the A228 near Pembury.

At about 7am a black BMW 3 Series was travelling towards Colts Hill when it was involved in a collision with a blue Ford EcoSport coming in the opposite direction.

The incident happened between the junctions with Redwings Lane and Maidstone Road.

A police spokesman said: “The driver of the Ford, a woman in her 50s, was treated for injuries at the scene and then taken to a London hospital where she remains in a serious condition.

“The other driver was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.

“He has since been arrested in connection with the collision.”

Officers are carrying out inquiries and appealing to anyone who saw what happened, or has relevant dashcam or CCTV footage, to come forward.

The spokesman added: “They would particularly like to speak to the driver of a van who stopped at the scene after the collision and may have information that could assist the investigation.”

The A228 at the scene of the collision was closed while serious collision investigators completed their enquiries.

It reopened at about 3pm.
