John Surtees and his F1 Ferrari to lead parade

09:00, 16 May 2014

Edenbridge will be awash with F1 cars and racing motorbikes on Spring Bank Holiday Monday.

It is all centred around racing legend John Surtees, who won world championships on both four wheels and two - who is celebrating his 80th birthday.

Mr Surtees has been based in the village for the past 56 years. This year is the 50th anniversary of his winning the F1 world championship.

The Edenbridge Fun Day will raise awareness and funds for local charities including the Kent Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance and the Henry Surtees Foundation, established by John Surtees following the tragic death of his son Henry while competing in Formula 2 race in 2009 aged just 18.

Driving in the parade through the village will be the actual Ferrari that Mr Surtees drove to victory in 1964; the first Formula 1 car built by Team Surtees at its Edenbridge base - the TS7, the MV Agusta four-cylinder GP motorcycle that Mr Surtees rode to victory in 1960 and many others.

The parade starts at 3pm. All welcome.
