10:45, 16 December 2016
Police have moved to reassure the public after a Facebook post about a supposed knifeman was shared more than 100 times.
The post, on the Cranbrook Chat group, claimed that a man had followed a girl home with two knives.
It has been shared more than 100 times on the social media site.
But when police were approached for a comment, they confirmed no offences had been committed.
A spokesman said: "At 9.12pm on Monday 12 December Kent Police received a report stating a girl had been followed home by a man in Cranbrook.
"Officers have spoken with the informant to establish the circumstances and no offences were reported."
They added that a knife had not been pulled out on the girl, and the man had not followed her home.
