A fire engine was called to the scene, between the junction with Maidstone Road and Morgan Way, at around 2.30pm today.

Posting on X, Kent Highways said: "Paddock Wood, Maidstone Road: The traffic lights at the junction of Badsell Road are not working due to a power cut in the area.

"UKPN (UK Power Networks) are working to restore power."

The fire service released an updated statement at 5pm saying: “Advice to avoid the area around Badsell Road in #Paddock Wood remains in place.

“One fire engine is still at the scene and the road is closed.”

As of 5.20pm, UKPN said just two households remained without power and it was expected to be restored by between 9pm and 10pm.

At 8pm, a fire service spokesman said: “Crews have left the scene and we're no longer advising motorists to avoid the Badsell Road area of #PaddockWood.”
