Fly-tippers dump rubbish in Cock Lane in Horsmonden

A country lane has been closed after fly-tippers dumped a load of rubbish across the carriageway.
Cock Lane in Horsmonden was shut over the Bank Holiday weekend and is still closed this morning.
Hugh Nye, who lives nearby, heard a vehicle at around 9pm on Friday. It is thought the offenders simply drove along the road in a tipper truck, spreading the rubbish across a considerable distance.
Mr Nye said: "The authorities were very quickly on the scene to erect barriers to stop traffic going along there and keep it safe."
The rubbish is still there this morning.
Mr Nye was opening the garden of his home to the public over the weekend under the National Gardens Scheme.
Fortunately his visitors were still able to gain access from Spelmonden Road and he welcomed around 250 guests.
Mr Nye said it was not the first time rubbish had been dumped in the lane, which he put down to its secluded location.
"It is annoying," he said.
KCC said it could not say exactly when the rubbish would be cleared, but the job had a seven-day notice on it, meaning it would definitely be removed by June 3.
Many people have warned of an expected rise in fly-tipping incidents after June 3 when KCC intends to charge visitors to its waste recycling stations £4 for every bag of soil, rubble or hardcore or piece of plaster board.
KCC has promised to open a new recycling station in Allington within the next 15 months.
