A contractor for Network Rail has been hurt while clearing vegetation near Marden train station.

The casualty, described as being a man in his 20s, suffered an injury to his foot and ankle after being hit by part of a falling tree.

He was taken to Tunbridge Wells Hospital by ambulance.

The accident happened at around 10am and forced Southeastern to terminate one train at Paddock Wood.

This train was heading away from London and another service was delayed by eight minutes.

The line was fully clear at 10.25am and it is not yet known how the worker became injured or the extent of his wounds.

British Transport Police have confirmed it is not a police matter.

A spokesman for Network Rail said: “A Network Rail contractor has been hurt while working on the lineside, away from the tracks, near Marden, Kent, this morning.

"Coast-bound trains were stopped so the injured man could be treated by paramedics.”

National Rail Services have warned people to expect delays of up to 20 minutes on trains running between Tonbridge and Ashford International.

These are expected to last until 11:30am.
