An investigation is under way after a man was brutally attacked in his own home in Tunbridge Wells.

The victim was left with serious head injuries - including several skull fractures - after being beaten at the Dorking Road property.

A friend found the 60-year-old lying on the floor on Monday, May 26 after the "sustained" attack.

An ambulance crew was called and the serious assault was then reported to police at 5.35pm.

DI Maxine Martin said: "Whilst it is believed that the victim's wallet and mobile phone may have been taken during the assault, we are still trying to establish a clear motive for what was clearly a sustained attack.

"The victim is slowly recovering in hospital, but has suffered extensive head injuries and although we are not ruling out the possibility that he may have known his attacker we are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.

"You may be aware of someone who visited the area at this time who has acted suspiciously, or who has returned home with blood stains on their clothing."

Witnesses or anyone with information is asked to phone Kent Police on to 01732 379179, quoting reference YY/10419/14, or Kent Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

A 35-year-old Tonbridge man arrested in connection with the attack has been bailed pending further inquiries until July 25.
