13:09, 07 June 2016

A video has emerged of the terrifying moment a car burst into flames shortly after being driven into a busy supermarket car park.

Witnesses said the vehicle, believed to be a Ford Focus, entered the Budgens car park in Rye Road, Hawkhurst.

The female driver reportedly climbed out of the car after smelling burning and just managed to get out of the way before it was engulfed in flames.

Flames reached several metres into the air and the car was destroyed.

The woman, said to be from Rolvenden, is not believed to have been injured and was given a hot drink by staff at a nearby business.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service said a crew from Cranbrook was called at 3.10pm yesterday and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus spent an hour tackling the blaze.
