Platts Heath racer Jake Hill ended his 2023 season in retro Formula 1 action.

BTCC pilot Hill was making his debut in the Gulf Historic Dubai GP Revival where he drove a Lotus Elan 26R in a three-hour Le Mans-style race.

However he also got his hands on an F1 British Racing Green Ensign N173 from the 1970s, which he drove in two 25-minute races. He also got the chance to shake down a 1987 Leyton House 871.

In qualifying for retro F1, Hill was sixth out of 18 cars but fastest of the 70s models. Behind the wheel of the Elan, he qualified 13th with co-driver Colin Sowter.

In the first F1 race Hill finished fifth - first 70s car - while the three-hour event in the Lotus earned eighth place.

The following day’s second F1 battle saw Hill go one better with fourth overall and again fastest 1970s runner.

“What a way to end my 2023 racing year - racing an F1 car in Dubai,” Hill said.

“Add that to my six BTCC wins in the BMW, the four Super Touring wins in the Nissan Primera, wins at Goodwood in the Capri and the Skyline and brilliant races in the BMW CSL, Chevron B26, Ford Mustang and HWM Jaguar [and] it’s been about as busy and varied as I could have ever dreamed of.
