Nathan Smith of Shortlands GC wins the Cecil Leitch 5 Club Championship

The 64th annual Cecil Leitch 5 Club Championship took place at West Kent Golf Club.

The course was in excellent condition, matched by the weather, which was also superb.

Although numbers were down on previous years due to Covid restrictions imposed on all clubs, they welcomed 62 finalists.

Of the 25 men that took part, Nathan Smith of Shortlands GC took the trophy with a score of 40 points off an adjusted handicap of 19.

Second was Alistair Haworth of Pedham Place, playing off an adjusted handicap of 18, scoring 36 points, edging West Kent’s Martin Roche on countback.

Longest drive was won by Nick Martin of Langley Park Artisans and nearest the pin went to Oliver Boreham of Knole Park.

The ladies’ competition was contested by 36 players.

Karen Harris of Sidcup won on countback with a score of 35 points off an adjusted handicap of 25.

Second place went to Carol Spratt of Cherry Lodge, off a handicap of 28. Third place went to Karen Watkinson of Lamberhurst, playing off 21, finishing with 34 points.

Longest drive was won by Sarah Brice of Rochester & Cobham Park and the nearest the pin winner was Gitte Sarsfield of West Kent.

Tournament organisers the Kent County Playing Fields Association would like to thank everyone at West Kent for their support, along with sponsors Tap 17, Paul Newman Maintenance & Decoration, KC Wong Acupuncture, The Utility Warehouse, Sapphire Water Softeners, Richard T Maylam Land Services, Ackland Webb Chartered Accountants, Richard Moon and Frederic Bistro.
