Exhibition highlighting Turner Prize 2019 nominees
Running until January 12, 2020, this year’s prestigious Turner Prize competition is at Turner Contemporary and that means you can check out the exhibition of work by the four brilliant artists - Lawrence Abu Hamdan, Helen Cammock, Oscar Murillo and Tai Shani - shortlisted for the award at the famous gallery.
No Stone Left Unturned is an exhibition/residency by local artist Paul Hazelton at the newly-opened Margate Caves that explore the connections between the caves and its surrounding area and certain individuals. Using dust, the artist will sculpt figures based on prominent people from the area.
Nowland presents: Trip the Light Fantastic
Run by Dreamland as part of the Margate NOW festival, Trip the Light Fantastic is a unique night of interactive sound and visual art installations and projections at Elsewhere. These arts events will showcase the talent, creativity and expertise of local artists and musicians to help grow the town’s unique night-time creative economy.
Christmas Markets at Turner Contemporary
Why not drop into Turner Contemporary in December to check out local makers markets, Christmas takeovers and some great performances. There’s the The Waste-Free Winter Market, East Kent Christmas Takeover, Green Rooms Market, Macramé wreath workshop and Kent Creative’s Designers & Makers Market. Don’t forget to also visit the Christmas Shop at the gallery.
Departures: Jessica Jordan-Wrench
A noisy text installation, based around a purpose built split-flap display, exploring the radically unstable concept of ‘now’. Jessica Jordan-Wrench will be welcoming people visiting the town at Margate train station.
Turner Contemporary’s volunteer programme
Turner Contemporary is looking for volunteers to take part in a special Volunteer Takeover Day on Saturday, November 30. This is an exciting opportunity for people to get a one-off taster of what it is like to be a Margate NOW & Turner Contemporary Volunteer during one of the busiest seasons. The event also coincides with the launch of Turner Contemporary's Christmas programme.
1927 will collaborate with local schools to create a series of animated folk-tales presented in different locations throughout the town. Once finished, those stories will be presented in “Raree” boxes dotted about the town for all to see!

Nowland presents: Parakeet at Olby’s Soul Café
Brigitte Aphrodite and Quiet Boy's new show Parakeet is back for an exclusive homecoming performance. Parakeet is a genre-crossing status quo defying musical and is a feast for the ears, eyes and heart told through irresistible song, punk poetry, electronic sounds and cutting edge fashion. This event is also part of the Margate NOW festival and is run by Dreamland.
An ambitious and dynamic festival of art, events and performances that is being held across the town to mark the opening of the Turner Prize 2019 exhibition at Turner Contemporary.
