Master of the mind Derren Brown will unveil his first new live show for six years in the county next week - but its content is, as always, a closely-guarded secret.
Showman, which is at the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury next week - and the Orchard Theatre in Dartford next year, after both shows were postponed from 2020 - does, however, have something Derren is prepared to talk about beforehand.
“The heart of the show is about remembering what’s important," he said. "Like how the very things that we find most isolating in life - our fears and difficulties - actually connect us. Framed with what I think will be some extraordinary demonstrations of my voodoo”.
“Strangely, the show pre-Covid was, at its heart, about how the tough things in life that we feel isolate us, tend in fact to bring us together, and be the very things that we share.
"And then lockdown happened, which was a strangely literal playing out of that theme. So although the benefit of extra time has allowed us to re- work the show a little and change some aspects of it, its heart has remained the same”.
His shows have something of a cult following, as well as being award winners. In 2017 he made an award-winning US stage debut at the Atlantic Theater in New York with Derren Brown: Secret, which transferred to Broadway, enjoying a sell-out season in New York until January 2020.
His TV specials have also had us gripped, and he celebrated a milestone with the small screen last year in the Channel 4 documentary Derren Brown: 20 Years of Mind Control Live. He also had a show in 2016 based on his view of how to find happiness.
There are a few tickets from £49, left for his show at the Marlowe, which runs from Tuesday, September 14 to Saturday, September 18. Book at marlowetheatre.com
