The Wine Garden of England Festival is back for a second year inside Rochester Cathedral this weekend, after the success of last year’s inaugural event

Last year’s made history as the first annual wine festival to be held in the cathedral since Gundulf, the Bishop of Rochester from 1077 to 1108 and a keen winemaker, was honoured by his fellow monks with a festival.

The festival, organised by the Wine Garden of England partnership, will take place in the cathedral’s crypt and will feature tastings and talks from wineries in sessions throughout the day. To be held on Saturday, November 16, the ticketed event is sponsored by Southeastern and will be a chance to meet the producers themselves and sample up to 30 Kent wines.

The Wine Garden of England is made up of seven Kent wine producers: Biddenden, Chapel Down, Domaine Evremond, Gusbourne, Hush Heath Estate, Simpsons Wine Estate and Squerreys, who formed a friendly collective to promote the county’s wines to both the wine trade and the wine lovers locally, nationally and internationally.

Also at the cathedral on the same day will be the Rochester Food & Drink Festival, a free event with Kent produce, running from 11am to 4pm in the Cathedral Nave. Entry is free. You can find out more here.
